Ok my best friend is TTC. She is using one of those clear blue fertility monitors. She got a "peak" on The 3rd and again on the 4th. When exactly did she most likely actually ovulate?? The 3rd or the 4th??

  1. Actually, most likely on 4th or 5th. Normally you get a LH surge 12-36 hours before ovulation, so by the time it happens, the LH has normally gone back down again. But having said that, I got a peak the day after ovulation this month (I know it happened because I had an ultrasound that day by accident, and my doctor saw it!) Aso remember that the first few months of the CBEFM is not totally reliable as a guide because the machine is still learning her body's hormone levels. Next month she should only get 1 peak day and by the 3rd month it should be 2 days high, 1 day peak, and then back to low.

  2. She most likely ovulated between the 4th and the 6th.  Fertility monitors tell you when you're fertile.  They don't tell you when you ovulate. The idea is to have s*x when you're fertile BEFORE ovulation, so that by the time the egg is released (ovulation), there is already sperm there waiting to fertilize it.

  3. You get a peak about 12-24 hours before you ovulate.  Usually, I think it's after the last positive reading.  Her surge probably lasted 2 days.  However, I've heard some weird stories with OPKs not working quite like is expected.  She probably ovulated on the 4th (maybe later in the day).  If you combine OPKs with charting on a site like fertilityfriend.com, it can make things a lot easier.  Then, she could keep BDing until a negative OPK and a temperature rise.  Good luck to her!
