When exercising, how long of consecutive work should I do?

I heard after 20 minutes is when it really starts, so how much longer (per day) should I go for if I want to lose weight? How much longer would I have to work if I don't have a healthy diet?

  1. It starts from the moment you get going til the moment you stop :)

    So essentially, the longer the better, at least half an hour a day, but it has to be of a certain intensity (cardio range), or it won't do you much good.
