  1. Nails,Big ones.

  2. If you're nailing 2x material together, then you need at least 3" cement coated nails.  Screws are acceptable too, the only thing about screws are that they are more expensive and you should drill first before you set the s***w.  Drill so you don't split the wood.  The screws should also be long enough to go through both sets of lumber.

  3. I would Drill & s***w, it's the least stressful to the wood. Size would depend on the wood size.

  4. 3-4 Inch Nails, Thick Ones, wide Head ....

  5. personally i use screws on most things they give a better fixing and can always be removed and re fixed if needs be. In this day and age with battery powered drill ect it is no hard to use a s***w fixing then a nail

  6. Ne need to s***w, use 4" ribbed nails and skew nail into a timber wallplate, or fix down with galvanised steel straps.

  7. Use 16d sinker nails, and toenail them.  2 nails from one side of the joist, one from the other side.  After the roof is complete, install hurricane clips with joist hanger nails.  Hope this helps.
