When flying internationally (from the US to Ireland) can I pack a bag of snacks?

If I pack some food (macaroni&cheese, bags of chips, small cereal boxes, ect.) in my checked-in luggage, would I have any trouble with my luggage going through cutoms? I know fresh fruit, and meat have issues. I wasn't sure if snack foods would?

  1. There will be no problem with those kinds of foods.  My daughter and her friend travel that route and they always pack food items such as those.

  2. For sure!! You can even put liquids and gels in your checked luggage if you want!! Go crazy!

Look up Ireland customs requirements if you're not sure, but I'm sure anything processed and packaged will be fine.

If you're worried, read the customs form carefully when you're arriving and make sure you declare anything if you're not sure. Better to declare something you don't need to than look like you're trying to sneak something through

  3. When I lived in London, I traveled to & fro the states for business, visits, etc and always packed my suitcases with favorite U.S. food stuffs that it would be hard to find and/or too expensive in the UK.

I never had an customs or TSA issue as long as my checked bag didn't have any gel-like substance or liquid.  Even when I did pack peanut butter or any other "liquidy" food stuff, it was never confiscated, but my suitcases were always opened & searched.

Funny, I also packed boxes of mac & cheese with me on return trips to London!
