  1. You can.  Feel free to use any oil you wish, it doesn't change the flavor much.  Good luck!

  2. Olive oil is a great substitute for "vegetable oil".  The only time it shouldn't be used instead of vegetable oil is when you're baking (like cakes or breads).  The link below is to a site with FAQs about olive oil. The substitution questions are pretty low on the page, so you'll have to scroll down a bit. They say you can even substitute olive oil for butter or margarine (except in the case of cookies and some cakes).

Enjoy the health benefits of the olive oil. It's got much better nutritional value.

  3. you can

  4. You can.  I even substitute olive oil when I'm making cakes.

  5. Olive oil has a flavor that veggie or canola does not and the smoke point is a little lower.

You can still use it, just adjust the recipe to accomodate.

  6. Oh, I always use olive oil! It's my favorite too! I use olive oil and some seasonings, and sometimes even a bit of water or soy.

  7. You want to make sure the oil you're using can handle the high temperature as well.  Typically, foods are fried at 180-190C so you have to make sure the temperature at which the oil begins to smoke is higher than this.  If you re-use the oil, the smoke temperature decreases so be careful using it too much.  Vegetable oil is typically used in recipes because of its flavor, but if you don't mind the flavor you could use olive oil as long as you are careful about the temperature.  Other good options for safe frying are peanut and sunflower oil, although both are a little more expensive.

Type of Oil  Smoke Point Temperature

    safflower oil 265°C

    sunflower oil 246°C

    soybean oil 241°C

    canola oil 238°C

    corn oil 236°C

    peanut oil 231°C

    sesame oil 215°C

    olive oil 190°C

    lard 183 - 201°C

  8. just use it no1's stopping ya

    =)

  9. I do use mostly olive oil for sauteing vegetables, not deep frying, though, better to use sunflower or canola oil, there.

  10. Here is why you shouldnt.  Olive Oil is heavier than vegetable oil and it will burn up faster.  Now if you wanted to saute with olive oil.?...then yes, do that.  Deep frying no.....sauteing yes....
