  1. I had my baby in June & I didn't have any midwives but I had one really horrible nurse in the hospital! She was a really mean woman! When I went to the hospital, they put the monitors on my stomach for me & the baby. When I layed on my back, everything was fine. She made me lay on my side which kept cutting off circulation or something to the baby & made the monitors go off. Then the doctor asked me why I kept laying on my side! She kept trying to hurry me along & get me to push. SHE decided (without asking the doctor) that she was going to turn my epidural OFF so I could feel the contraction & know when to push! It totally wore off when the baby was just coming out. Because she kept rushing me, I pushed hard & got a huge laseration way up inside the uterus (the doctor said)  & was losing a lot of blood. Since the epidural was non existant anymore, the doctor had to put me completely out to stitch everything up. He was sooo mad at that nurse!

  2. I was in labor for 17 hours with my daughter and had 3 different midwives during. 2 Of the midwives where really nice and 1 was really horrible. She didnt treat me very well either leaving dirty matts underneath me instead of changing them piling them!

Even when i had my daughter and was on the post natal ward they were the worse they were very rude and unpleasant...I would probably even re-think going there for my next pregnancy...

  3. My midwife was friendly but also very bossy and firm

  4. My nurse was absolutely amazing the entire time, even held my hand when i was nervous as h**l during the epidural...until the time came when I decided to be real stubborn and put my legs down, fold my arms and tell them I would no longer do it and that they needed to find another way- all during mid push! It was at that time which she told me I was being a baby and needed to toughen up! haha. But other than that she was really good the whole time, held my legs and pretty much delievered my son, my doctor didnt show up til he had to put on scrubs and deliver my son.

  5. My midwife was awesome. My nurse was "different". She was a 70 year old women from africa. Has been delivering babies for 44 years and never married and has no kids. She was opinionated...and old fashioned... but we just smiled and let her do her thing...

  6. When i went into labor suite with both my girls i was lucky i got a nice midwife both times. During delivering my first though the sister midwife ( head) came in and she wasn't so nice. She kept telling me i was no where near pushing when i told her i needed to push. She also kept my partner out the room when i was asking for him.

  7. I loved my widwives. I built a great relationship w/ them throughout my pregnancy so I felt we knew eachother well. They were eager to get me and help me in anyway I needed it and were on top of it. I had one for half my labor and she was off her shift so I got the other one, lol. She even massaged my back, she explained things very well, she made sure my husband and i were informed of important things, etc. If you feel you want to connect w/ another person prior to delivery and have the person there with you for the delivery this is the way to go, since doctors only come in when the baby is getting ready to come out.

  8. I wish I had a midwife. Here they don't treat patients with multiples. I've heard nothing but good things about them. They treat you like you are the only person on earth, they have excellent bedside manner.

  9. I didn't have a midwife, but the nurses I had were really nice in the hospital, with the exception of one.

I'd imagine midwives would be nice as well.  They may push you to work harder, but it's all in the name of getting baby out.  I don't think anyone I know has ever had a rude or unpleasant midwife or nurse, not while in labour anyway.  You probably wouldn't notice and if you did you'd just bit her head off, because patience with people doesn't come easy when you're in that state of mind.

    Good luck!
