When going to dinner to discuss a business plan w/ an investor do I pay the bill?

If he reaches for it should I insist or is that insulting?

You should definitely pay the bill. it shows your class plus he is the one who might be investing with you. he is doing a favor for you repay him with the decency of paying the bill.

Yes, he/she is there at your request.  You should pick up the tab...and he/she probably won't reach for the bill.  Don't go top line, go medium price restaurant and keep it easy on the liquor (glass of wine or two, maybe ask him/her for a suggestion).

don't let it be an awkward pause as that could be a deal breaker. expect to pay, signal for the check when the time is right. consider doing this an investment in your future

I would expect to pay the bill.  The investor is unlikely to protest.  It would be tacky to split the bill, and of course the investor should not pay the whole bill.
