When growing broccoli do you pick of the yellow flowers or do they grow into more broccoli?

What you harvest is the tightly packed immature buds of your broccoli plants, well before the actual flowers open.

Eventually these flowers will produce seeds, which could be saved for growing next season.

It is better to cut off any broccoli spears that start to flower, so that energy can be put into development of side shoots that you can harvest a little later. If your plants energy goes into seed production your yield will be much reduced.

Seeds from hybrid plant varieties do not typically come true from seed, so most growers do not save seeds from these, and want to maximise their crop too, of course.

Once broccoli gets flowers, it's usually not good to eat anymore. You are supposed to harvest before flowers.

When they have yellow flowers they have gone to seed.You want to pick them before they flower.
