When has the last time the media said a candidate ever lied?

I think that due to the deregulation of the media, they now trade access for information, so they can no longer say anything really bad about a politician, or that they lied. I think this is why our elections come down to the wire, because now most people have no idea who is telling the truth.

  1. Good question. I have noticed them quoting people who accuse a candidate of lying, or saying something like "the candidate admitted lying" but I don't think I have ever heard or read anything that point-blank says, "This person lied."

When the equal time provision for broadcasting was done away with during the Reagan administration, it opened the door for commentators like Rush Limbaugh to impugn the character of political figures in ways that would have been unthinkable in earlier years. And then the accusation itself becomes news, and it becomes a topic in the mainstream press.

    And then the damage is done, because later corrections and retractions never receive the coverage that the originalaccusation did.
