Question:

When hiring a car in the US, roughly how much extra does it cost to put an additional driver onto the policy?

To put my question into context:

Myself and two other friends want to hire a car and drive across the US this summer. We live the UK. We're all going to be 21 come the time of the holiday.

The company that we've been quoted a price with (www.nationalcar.com) said that we would have to pay extra for each additional driver we wanted on the policy. That's fine with us, we all want to have a drive of the car.

Annoyingly, whilst car insurance and all the other additional costs could be calculated online, additional drivers was the only cost they couldn't/wouldn't calculate. We have to arrange this with them, at the car rental desk, when we go to pick the car up.

In people's experience, how much per person does this normally add to the bill?

  1. You could try to google it ,here is some direct resource might be helpful.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/uk...

  2. Hi,

You can have a look at www.carrentals.net.au. If you can find a suitable vehicle, you can click on the 'Rental Conditions' link right next to the vehicle which should give you the rate for the additional driver.

Note that additional drivers fee is usually payable at the time of the collection, therefore some web sites will not calculate this in the rental price online.

    Cheers,

    Michael
