So I am learning German right now in school. I am really interested in moving to Germany. I'm not sure wheather or not i would stay forever, but i would like to live there for some length of time. I would be going about it alone. No one would probably be helping me in Germany. I mean there is a possibliy that my cousin might depending on if i move there him but i don't know him. So ya. I know it will be hard but i want to try. Part of my heritage is German and i love learning stuff about German culture and language. So what should i do in order to move other there and work? Danke!!!

  1. as far as i know finishing only highschool wont bring you far

the US education system is compared to our...very easy

you should go to college to be on a safer side

you will have time to learn german

if you really want to move to germany you must learn around 2 hours per day german

to really master the german language can easily take you over 10 years or maybe more if u dont try hard

  2. I applied for an apprenticeship (Ausbildung) at a German company right out of high school.  The company took me and sent me to an intensive language school for 4 months before starting the programm.  That was 17 years ago and I'm still in Germany - not even thinking about going back to the US.  I don't mind the taxes because the salaries are also higher than in the US.

  3. There are several ways that would take so long to explain,

if you wish to email me some specific questions Id be glad to answer them.

I did exactly what you are trying and hoping to do myself years ago and am doing it again soon.

Their are several things, but easier to talk in an email.

  4. Your school exams when leaving high school won't count here. You need certain skills if you want to find work here.

You must go through immigration stuff and such.

And besides of all this: We're short of jobs now and taxes are a lot higher than in the USA. Clothing, living is much more expensive as well.

A good knowledge of German might help much. You need a permit for to stay and another one for to work. Both are not easy to get.

So, if you really want to give it a try then come over.

  5. get good grades, go to germany, get a place to stay (best to find a place before going over) and get a job you like maybe apply for a few jobs incase you dont get the first job then be happy! and maybe you could get some training there for a better job if things go smoothly

  6. Are you studying German in college right now?  Because what I would do is go study German abroad.  You can learn more and yet live in Germany and see if you really like it.  I was born in Stuttgart and I went back to visit in 2006 and I didn't want to leave.  So Germany is really awesome if you pick the right place...I've never been to the north part of Germany, so I don't know what thats like.

  7. Find a college here that has a foreign exchange program or a headquarter in Germany. The best thing you can do is to first stay in Germany as a student because there will be little chance for you living alone in Germany without a sponsor, decent job, or a citizenship and Germany is an expensive place to live.

  8. find a good college there, good luck!!!

  9. There are American companies that sell American products to US military bases and commissaries.  They need American reps.  Stereo equipment is an example and I know that Bose has a sales rep structure in Germany.  I know there are others.  You might try to find them through the Dept of Defence.  Good luck!

  10. Hi well my dad is a college professor in Magdeburg,Saxony-Anhalt,Germany and well in the university here in Magdeburg he teaches English, well if i were you i would become a TEFL teacher you get paid 20 dollars an hour and you teach people English in a secondary school or in university here is a website maybe this can show you some things about teaching in Germany.
