when i am dialing to remote server through vpn connection by netscreen remote vpn client software, i am disconnted from my local network ,is there any solution i can work both my local and vpn at the same time.Please guide me.

  1. It sounds like your client VPN solution does not allow split tunneling.  If they allowed split tunneling, you would be able to access resources on your local area network such as a network share or a networked printer.  Ask your IT support about this.

  2. you do NOT need any software to use the vpn. It is built into the OS. Often third part software makes assumptions, it may actually be trying to dial a connection, which will cut off you existing internet connection.

  3. It depends how your VPN is set up.  It is possible that your VPN becomes your default route, so even if you could still access your LAN, you could not access the internet through your LAN.  In that case routing for the VPN should only be for the LAN network (IP range) you are remotely connecting to.

    It is also possible that for security reasons, your VPN blocks any other network connections to avoid anything accidentally getting to the VPN secured network.
