  1. There are many websites that list "Waiting Children" one important thing to understand is that in **many** cases the actual children listed are often Not the actual children waiting...

Many adoptive parents have inquired about the children publically listed and wanted to adopt one of them.... It can be upsetting because 6 months later the same child is still listed... and a year later still listed.... The interested adoptive parents wonder--Why don't we ever hear back about this child and why is the child still waiting? It can be agonizing to the parents who would be happy to adopt a "certain" child they have seen posted on the internet....

....okay so why does this happen?

Well, often the children you see were Once really in need of a waiting family and often this information has been made public for the purpose of Putting a Face to the issue of the 120,000 waiting children.... That's one issue....

The other issue is for those children who are really running out of time to be placed for adoption.... and They themselves would like to be listed.... It may be their last chance to be placed with a family they can come home from college at the holidays or have at their weddings....or have their children call Grandparents.... So, these children who have Real and Hope to be adopted allow themsleves to be listed.....

The reason that you find so many Waiting Children sites that have requirements to View the waiting children is that we don't want to advertise them like a car.... So, sites such as http://AdoptUSKids.org will require that interested parents with an Approved Home Study have their worker send a copy of that home study to the organization before they approve the member of the website and allow them to see the REAL waiting children.....

There are actually very FEW waiting children profiled on the internet.... some may think this is misleading.... I thought it was too at first.... But, after thinking about it I understand. The other issue is that on these websites they are NOT going to be able to actually Say too much about a child--as the real stories are often too hard for ordinary people to understand... So any details about the children will Not be all the details.

There are very few Waiting Child sites that actually have current children listed or any full disclosure about the child's actual needs or possible problems....

There are so many "confidentiality" rules about children in Foster Care.... it's always sooooo hard to let the public know about all of these children and it is difficult to Not try and make use of the information tools we have... One side would say lets post every kid all over the world until someone wants that child.... The other side of the issue is that We are talking about Real Kids and we don't want to hurt them... We don't want to post them all over and have years pass while they wait and never are adopted....

http://www.nwae.org/   lists children and some of their stories...

  2. Hi Chelsea,

Based upon some of your other questions, I'm guessing you are still in your teens.  You probably do not think anything is even wrong with your question.

The trouble with asking for websites to look at children, is it makes it about shopping for a product to suit the consumer.  That's not what adoption really is.  Adoption is a service for the CHILD.  It's about finding the best home for each particular child.  It should not be about presenting children as if they are puppies or kittens to look at and choose one.

Children without families should not be additionally exploited in this manner, especially by people who are not even seriously ready to adopt.  It's also not safe for the children, with all the kinds of people in this world.  Thank you if you can understand this.
