When i buy drift wood from a pet shop can i just add it straight to my tank

  1. If your driftwood is packaged it is usually safe enough, however you should always boil it in water to get the tannins and anything else out that may hurt your fish.  Soaking for a day or two will also accustomise your driftwood so it doesn't float.


  2. You could boil it but you will probably still have tannin leaching out for weeks or months, if you don't want too much tannin in your tank soak it in a bucket of water for a month or so (change the bucket water too)  to get the worst of it out.

  3. No still wash it in HOT water ONLY. This is what you should do anytime you add something to the aqauarium. If it is a stone or driftwood from the wild (best word I could think of...lol) You would need to boil it.
