  1. Oh, i have spent many a time at the ortho.  Well, I also had an overbite, so they gave me rubberbands to straighten it out.  But if you don't have braces, I don't exactly know how they're going to attach them.

I had many things.  I had braces for 5 years due to crooked teeth, I had a palet expander due to my extremely small mouth, I had box rubberbands because of my incorrect bite, and of course I ended with a retainer.

The ortho is not a bad experience at all, peronsally I hate the dentist more.  If theres any other problems, they'll explain step by step how they're goign to alleviate the problem.

  2. your first visit, they probablyw on't hurt you... :)

I had an overbite and was so scared to get braces!!  Actually it is not as painful as it looks.  Just a little dull soreness.  But the process is not painful really.

The hardest part is when they do that goopy mold of your teeth and you have to hold this goop in your open mouth for like five minutes.  And you'll drool and maybe gag.  And maybe vomit all over the hygenist.  Like I did.

  3. They will normally do a consult exam on you. Normally most ortho offices like to do a full series of x-rays before your treatment so they can see where you stand. If you were referred by a general dentist, then they will probably want to know why and for what circumstances. Normally with an overbite, I'm pretty sure they use a retainer to close the overbite in. I know it would not be anything that painful, because overbites are fairly easy to fix. Just don't be afraid of the materials/instruments they use. Some of them look intimidating but they are there to help you. It will just be like any other visit. The first visit will probably be the easiest at there office. Good Luck!

  4. first they usually make you and your parents fill out all these paper works, then they take pics of your mouth, then x-rays, and then you pick which kinds of braces you want.  Then your all done and you have to schedule a second appointment which is when you get your braces then they walk through how to take care of them then what foods to eat.

  5. to get bracese

  6. Metal. Lots and lots of metal.

  7. i know your scared i just got my bottom braces on a few days ago i have a little over bite so i'm not sure wat they'll do for it but suprisingly enough braces only ache for a few days and then you don't even notice them at first you taste metel but it goes away but it will all be worth it. keep smiling:)

  8. alot of S****y braces and painful devices. It's looking bleak,

  9. My Orthodontic was alot nicer than my usual dentist..

Same as the Dentist really alot of fumbling about in your mouth, if it's your first time they will be taking loads of measurements for your removable retainer before adding the fixed ones on.

Good luck I now have perfect teeth from braces!

  10. They will probably just look at the overbite, see how bad it is.  At most they will take some x rays, so don't worry, they wont do anything to you this visit.

  11. They may just look around and make a plan for treatment. they might possibly put in spacers in order to put braces on you in a couple of weeks.

Spacers are thick small rubber bands that they put in between your back teeth so they can but the metal bands on. The spacers hurt for the first couple of days, but take some asprin and you will be fine!

  12. You're obviously anxious about the visit.  Most orthodontists, these days, understand the problem and will make an effort to put you at ease.  They are going to examine you mouth/teeth and probably nothing is going to happen on the first visit.  They will discuss with you and your parents what they recommend either the end of first appointment or at the second appointment.

  13. well braces are the main thing, they will just get you molds so they know what they need to fix, maybe get some x-rays  and in a while u will have braces.

  14. it looks exactly like a normal dentist's office, but with more chairs. They will probably just take an x-ray, and mold your teeth in wax, and something pink molding stuff and they put it into a tray, then put it in your mouth for about 2 minutes. Nothing to be scared of! And maybe they will talk to you about your teeth's future.

  15. The start by examining and taking x-rays and then they will make a mold of your teeth by putting some gooey stuff into a platic thing that they put in your mouth to let harden.  Then they call you back for a new appointment and put on the braces.

  16. Thats the reason i am getting braces too. Well my first visi was when i was little they sat me up in the chair, and just looked at my teeth (they did not notice the overbite) I think it was more just to not get me scared, and cause my brother was getting his braces on, and it gave me something to do. LOL. But my real first visit, they brought me into a room and they just took pictures of me, the took piture of my mouth, they took a mold of my teeth, and stuff like that.

Then my mom came in about a 1 week later, and they discussed what they are gonna do. This is when they realized i had a really bad overbite, cause my overbite is not really noticable by eye but it is bad. And they told her how much it will cost, and how long i will have the braces on (only 1 year or less) and they said come back in a month, but i could not cause i was on vacation.

So i came back in 2 months, lol. And they but spacers in my teeth, and there like thick rubberbands that go in between your teeth so they can space out the teeth to put the acctual braces in.

After that they told me to come back about a week later (we made appointments) and i have not yet gotten my braces on but i will soon. And I am only getting on the top of my teeth cause my overbite will knock the bottom braces off, so no point pn that. And yea,

Cause its your first visit, you prob won't be getting your braces on for a month, and i thought the first visit was not bas, it was annoying, but did not hurt at all. The molding stuff was uncomfortable and cold, but nothing hurt. Good Luck.

LOL, i did not drool or vomit or gag when i got the mold in. It was cold, but thats it, it did not bother me, and it was less then 5 min for me, But yea, it prob feels diff on everyone.

  17. well i have had across bite and an over bite 4 13 years, 4 me, all they have ever done is point it out, but they nvr do anything about it, well i guess unless u ask them 2 : /

  18. All they do is look at your teeth the first time. That's it. I was scared but there's nothing to be afraid of. They ask you to bite down, smile, and open your mouth. That's pretty much it.

  19. Sounds like they arleady did xrays if they noticed your overbite. they will most likely mold your teeth first and figure out where they wil insert the device. you can chose to do it all at once, or at two different visits. i did two diff visits cuz it was too much to do at once.

FOr your overbite-- They will insert a device that has a metal ball on your two back teeth top, on on each side, then the same on the bottom teeth, but close to the front of your mouth, like where your lips end when you smile. these stay in place by being attatched to metal caps covering your teeth. secondly, they will attatch bars that look like hydrolix, that go from the top bars  to the bottom bars. you have to learn to eat and talk and do everything all over again. its not soo bad though, only takes about a week. you have to keep your mouth in a up and down moving position until the device is taken off, that can be kind of annoying.  for me also they put a thing that goes at the roof of my mouth that is attatched to your top teeth, and you turn a key twice in the device each day so that it will spread out your teeth to become wider.

for the braces, which i really suggest to do on another day, they just make you wear a headset to hold your mouth open, and glue each bracket onto your teeth and set it with a uv light. then they attach wires and bands.

your mouth will be sore, but just think about the outcome! you will have amazing teeth. good luck!!!
