When i play guitar..?

my left hand really cramps up..i dont have anyone to correct me because i dont have a teacher, im teaching myself, so im wondering if i'm holding it the wrong way. how are you supposed to hold your thumb when you play?

  1. Depends on the Chord, but usually right under the bridge.  Relax as much as you can, and still apply pressure.  I have the same problem.


  2. i had the same problem.

    i was playing scales and chordas around the 1 to 5 frets. i put a piece of tape right in the center of the neck under the 2nd fret and always kept my thumb there.

    now it just goes there naturally.

  3. The only way to play correctly is to make sure your hand is parallel to the fingerboard.

    This way, you can finger stretch without any problem. The thumb should be in the middle of the neck, or slightly higher.

    Most importantly, make sure that you are squeezing with the ball of the thumb at the first joint and tht it is slightly bent.
