  1. To "reboot" means to turn the computer off and back on.  I assume that what you mean to ask is how to "restore" the computer to a week ago.

When you do a restore using one of the restore points in Xp or Vista, all it does is return the registry and some system files to what they were at the time the restore was made.  It does not remove any files you have downloaded or any data you have saved.

If the problem is a virus, it will NOT remove the files for the virus either. However it MIGHT remove information from the registry that the virus needs to run. Usually it uses something in the registry to start itself when your computer is turned on.  Once you have restored the registry, then the virus may stop running and you will be able to use an anti-virus program to actually clean the virus off the PC.  But usually just doing a restore point does not clean viruses or spyware.

  2. Restore will NOT get rid of the Virus.

Restart your computer just before Windows starts press the F8 key choose Safe Mode and scan you computer with your antivirus. if you don't have antivirus goto download install and scan in safe mode

  3. That is not necessarily correct.

System restore allows you to set points that you can revert back to. But you must have this enabled.
