  1. iMovieHD (beginning with iMovie05, I think) can import HDV from a miniDV tape based high definition camcorder, edit and save the video as a "full quality" high definition video file.

    As with ANY miniDV tape based camcorder, connect the camcorder's DV port to your MacBook's Firewire 400 port with a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire (i.Link, IEEE1394a - all the same thing) cable.

    ++++

    If your camcorder is hard drive or flash memory based and captures high definition, chances are good that the video will be save using highly compressed AVCHD format. Only the most current version of iMovieHD (that was included with iLife08, but you may also need a free update from Apple) or the most current versions of FinalCut Express or FinalCut Pro2 can deal with AVCHD encoded video.

    I strongly suggest you go to apple.com, click on support, click on discussions, select the video editor you are considering using and searching for your camcorder's model number. The folks there are REALLY helpful and that forum is pretty active.

  2. You can only do it if your macbook is capable of HD, the video card, and the monitor. If its older, it probably is not, but if it is newer, check the box to see.

  3. I think you will need Final Cut Pro - not the basic version, for HD formats including HDV.
