I left the army as an 11m. Will i have to reenlist as an 11m or can i choose a different mos? Or, will i be reclassified as an 11b since it is a short priority job?

  1. You can REQUEST to change your mos, and go to school. There's a good chance that this will be approved, as the military is always looking to keep good people in. NO GUARANTEE ! Talk to a recruiter, and tell him/her, that if you dont get what you want, you wont re-enlist in the Army, but will look at one of the other branches of the military.

  2. likely you can go 11b now if you like

    nice bonus too

  3. Talk to your retention NCO and see what they can offer you.  Normally you reenlist in your same MOS.

  4. Are you out now and looking at going back in? If so you can go back in with whatever MOS you would like, just go into the recruiting station with the I will only sign up for the MOS I want attitude... you know how the Army rolls.

  5. Right, since you're out now, you'll enlist from scratch.  If they try to pressure you into any specific MOS, you can either tell them to bugger off or think it through and accept one of them.

As an 11M, they didn't need to spend a ton of money on special training for you (as compared to, say, a linguist) so you're more likely to have the chance at a different MOS.

In the end, it's up to you.  See what they have available and don't sign on that line again for just anything - take your time.  If they don't have what you want available NOW, ask when they will.  Then, and here's the tough part, WALK OUT.  Come back when they said there should be openings.  You've been there before, use that to your advantage.
