Obviously you should never shake an egg if you want it to hatch. I pick up my pigeon's eggs and  watch the progress of the egg all the time by holding it up to the sunlight or shining a flashlight under it.   If you are careful it is fine to look at them.  Sometimes the pigeons will suddenly roll an egg out of the nest as if they do not want it anymore.  Somehow they know the egg is not fertile and will not hatch.  If that is what happened with your egg then:

Smell it to see if it smells rotten or gently shake the egg you can hear the liquid.  If either are true it is bad.

Don't shake it. If you touch an egg or even breath on it the mother will not come back to it anymore

You should hear the watery sound now that you've addled (scrambled) the egg and killed the embryo!

Never shake a fertile egg.  On top of that if you didn't wash your hands before handing it the bacteria on your skin could have caused problems for the developing chick if you hadn't addled it.

Don't shake the egg! Now that you put your hands on the egg the mother Pigeon will not come back and sit on it longer.

When your pigeon is laying eggs stay away! Let her come back and forth and sit on her eggs. Once you touch and egg or handle one the Pigeon will NOT return to sit on the egg!

Its like that will all birds.

If you see a baby Bird that has fallen out of a nest never pick it up or help it. Cause the mother bird will smell you on it and never touch the bird again.
