When i sing, i can sound quite nasally!?

However! I'm having my tonsils removed because they are REALLY big, like HUGE the doctor said. I read it can make breathing difficult so basically, will this help me to not sound nasally when i sing?

i came to the theory that it would because my throat connection to my mouth would be far clearer?

Anyone that knows about these things?!!

Thanks so much :) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  1. The reason for having your tonsils removed would be to prevent infection.

Nasal sound can be caused by a number of different factors. The first and most common is the position of the soft palate. It should be slightly raised from resting position--not in the "yawn" position as many teachers would tell you. Then, tension in the tongue, jaw or the throat will also contribute to a nasal sound. Finally, it could just be a bad habit that can be corrected with a few sessions with a good teacher.

  2. Very True.  You will have a more open sound which gives more resonance to your voice and solves the nasally singing problem

    Good Luck With Surgery:)

  3. Wait until your throat is completely... and I do mean completely healed before attempting to warm up your voice or sing again.

Gradually start to warm up with easy vocal exercises.  Don't stretch your voice to do anything.

Yes, enlarged tonsils may contribute to a nasally tonal quality.  However, there are other factors involved in your voice's sound, including the position you hold your tongue and inner throat.  Are you consciously making a "round" tone in your whole mouth when you sing, rather than projecting your voice upward through your nose?  If you work on singing "round" consciously, eventually it becomes habit and your tone will improve.

Also, don't forget that tone production begins with proper breath control, up from the diaphragm rather from your throat.  Good posture and strong abs help hugely.
