like everytime i have someone over for a sleepover, i can't get to sleep unless my leg or foot is touching their leg or foot.

does anyone know why this is? what does it say about my personality or does it mean anything?

i think it helps me feel secure or something. i'm not sure, but if anyone has any answers, please share!

psych specialists are probably good at this type of thing...or someone who studies sleep behaviors.

thanks!

  1. Often times when we make the decision to share our bed...and by extension our lives...with someone; we need to be reassured that our decision was correct and that we are accepted and wanted.  One way to do that is to reassure ourselves with the sense of touch.  And sharing your bed with someone is one of the most intimate things that you can do, so to feel that everything is okay and that our emotional well-being is in check, we want to touch the other person.  It makes us feel accepted and wanted and tells the other person that we accept and want them.  And for most people the act of physically touching another person or being physically touched by another person is very comforting on a very primal level.  It is reassuring to both people.  If you are sad or upset about something a big hug always feel so good.  It is the same way when you are in bed with someone...you want to feel that primal connection that we all want and need.  I love to cuddle whenever I share my bed with someone.  The touching is comforting on many levels to both people.

  2. Yes, it sounds like you're right in thinking it's a security issue.

  3. probably something you did as a child. Did you sleep with your parents for a long time?

  4. I am in the exact same mode as you are whenever I sleep in the same be with anyone.  From my perspective, I need the reassurance that I am wanted by the person with whom I have trusted with my comfort and safety.  Touching is one of the most important senses for humans.  Touch reassures us that we are accepted and wanted.

  5. You are a people person and want to be "in touch".  You crave connection and acceptance.

I'm odd in that I have to have my feet outside of the covers, even when it is really cold.  I can be all bundled up, but the colder my feet are (short of frostbite), the happier I am.

    Go figure.

  6. its most likely of trust or security issues
