When i switched the batteries on my fios remote it wont work and only the top five buttons turn on why????

Since you don't say which remote you have, I can not tell you how to reprogram it.  I can give you the link to all FIOS remotes.

you might have to reprogram the code to the type of tv you have back into the remote. it does that when you change batteries i found out unfortunately. if you have the paper that the remote came in, it has a list of codes that fit each type of tv such as sylvania and etc.
