  1. more than likely it is from the altitude, especially if you are from a place where the altitude is low, your body is not used to it, i am from sealevel and when i go to mexico city my bp goes up because my cousin who is a doctor in mexico city said that my body has to work harder becuse of the high altitude i am not used to, i notced i breath harder also

  2. Yes your heart has to work harder, as you go up in altitude air gets thiner (less oxygen) . Your heart has to make up the difference of less oxygen in your blood by pumping a bit more blood in less time, specially if you are active or do exercise.

  3. Mexico City is  like 2200 meters above sea level, thats something like 6,700 ft. If you are not used to this altitude your body needs to adapt to a lower oxigen level that this altitude produces, therefore your blood pressure goes higher, you probably felt heavy and even a little lazy.

    It happens.

  4. Do you take your blood pressure when you are in Mexico, or do you jus feel like it is higher?  Many places in Mexico are between 4,000 and 8,000 ft. alevation.  If youare from a very low elevation in the U.S., I suppose the elevation could affect you ( if you are in the mountain areas and not just on the beach).  Ask your doctor about this.

  5. Yes, I agree with charlie, the altitude does influence some people--resulting in higher blood pressure. Also the change in temperature from what you're accustomed to in mexico city can also be the culprit especially for people who have an existing blood pressure problem.
