  1. That warning message you received was fake and you "fell into the trap" and clicked on it. I am not being judgmental by the way, could have happened to anyone. You downloaded spyware or a bug that messed up your system. No legit program would create a program folder in Program Files called "Antivirus". First, go to Start, Run and type: MSConfig

Go to the Startup tab and uncheck anything you don't recognice. If you see the scan.exe file you mentioned there uncheck it. If you want to really know what Startup Items you need to uncheck, go here:

    http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pag...

...and download that little program. Is a database of all the Startup Items and what they mean and do. Search for the names inside that little program and uncheck the ones that are harmless under the MSConfig, Startup items tab.

Restart your computer and check the "Do not show this..." message that shows up. That's just Windows telling you that the Startup Items list (stuff that runs each time you turn on your PC) has been modified.

Download a good antivirus such as the free edition of AVG Antivirus and run it. You'll also need to download Ad-aware (the free version) and wipe out all that mess.

If your computer is so corrupted you don't seem to make progress cleaning it up, you'll have to format (erase) your entire hard drive and reinstall Windows again. Before you do that, backup all your important files (Word documents, music, pictures or anything else you created or downloaded yourself since you started using your computer). Ask a friend who knows about computers or open a different question thread to find out how to achieve that.

  2. Run a virus scan in safe mode.

and make sure your program is installed properly.

sounds like a corrupted file, virus!

  3. If you really have the virus, I suggest you restart your computer and download another anti-virus program since what you got is basically junk. Erase it and find another one. Windows Vista doesn't work that well yet, just like our technician said. we used it before but had some problems too, so we get back to Windows XP.
