  1. treats

  2. your cat has down syndrome

  3. instead try to use a treat in your hand hold in front of its head and say the command and if it is done give the treat and repeat this process on different times

  4. i thought dogs were only supposed to be taught to sit...

  5. As I said, it takes a lot of patience and persistence. This is something totally new to the cat, and it doesn't know what you want her to do right now.  You may only be able to work with her for 5 minutes several times a day at first.  You do have to hold down her bum while saying the positive reinforcement and treat - so she knows she is doing something (even if she doesn't know what yet).  I taught my cat to sit, lay and beg when he was 4 years old.  It took about a year for him to do all three on command.  Make sure there are NO distractions in the room (I actually taught mine in the laundry room where it was quiet and no noise).

  6. Gosh, leave this cat alone and let it be a cat. It doesn't try to teach you to sit or whatever, does she. It's a cat!

  7. You can't train a cat to sit. Cats pretty much do whatever they want.

  8. good luck....cats are not easily trained to do tricks.  try treats, positive reinforcement.  if you manage to get her to sit, put it on utube.

  9. Hello,

I'm sorry but i have to disagree with the other people that say you can not teach a cat to do this. You can! I had a cat that would sit, beg, lay down, and roll over. I was teaching him how to walk with a leash and he was doing it, unfortunately he was bit by a spider and passed away. However to your question. You can use treats and positive tlc. Don't go overboard with the treats though. Use them as you need to. It takes a lot of time considering that this is a cat. If you can keep her around for a while with treats while trying to get her to sit good. But if she walks that's fine. You can always try later. Make sure you say the command when you try to get her to do it. Trust me. They will catch on. However don't get your hopes up to high. Not Every Cat Will Do This. I wish you luck!

  10. Cats are actually very easy to train. My cat sits, shakes, high-fives, and lays down on command (with treats of course). Sitting is the best to start with. Get the cats attention with a treat then say "sit" then push his bum down until it's on the floor. Immediately give the treat. Keep doing this everyday but don't do this for more than a few minutes each session. Every time you give the command "sit" wait a couple of seconds before pushing his bum down. Give the cat a chance to try, soon you'll notice the cat is starting to put the word with the action and treat. You can almost see them think. After he learns to sit you can then start to teach another trick like shake. Just remember to keep her attention with the treat when she tries to back up.

  11. get a dog and leave the cat alone
