  1. They usually go back 7 years.

However, you shouldn't lie on the application. Most applications ask if you have been convicted of a felony. Unless it was a felony say no.

If they ask for any convictions say yes and explain.

Unfortunately, what happened that long ago can still cause you not to get the job if they have somebody else with no convictions chances are higher they will get the job.

    Good luck.

  2. People change a lot over the course of 12 years; it may show up, but it shouldn't prevent you from obtaining the job you desire.

As for the previous answer, since when is a one time thief always a thief?  This is exactly why lower law enforcement officers need more education.

  3. If it shows up with the background check, don't deny it or make excuses.  Just say you were young and made a mistake and make sure to point out that you have not been in trouble since then.  Make it a point, if it applies, that you have good credit, never been fired from a job, never stole from an employer etc...  It's possible that it won't show up due to the time period and how deep your employer goes.  If you are trying to get into law enforcement, it will come up.  Police background checks come back with everything including your juvenile records.  Don't bring it up, but don't deny it either.  Good Luck.

  4. If you were only arrested there isn't much chance of it showing up on a background check.  If you were convicted of shoplifting it will be there to haunt you

  5. It might but  tell the truth and tell them you forgot. And this happened when you were young and dumb. It should have no affect on where you are today.

    Good luck to you.

  6. 4 dollar item DOESN'T MATTER...if a shitload of people took 4 dollar items every day...do the d**n math...if you were arrested and fingerprinted...yes it will show up on your record

  7. it is a part of your criminal history and will remain such unless the courts remove it.as to will you be hired? would you hire a thief?we do catch people that steal thousands every single day.they just do not having flashing signs that tell us that someone is stealing.you were a adult when you were caught stealing. it was your decision to steal and no one held a gun to your head and forced you. by the way. it is spelled sheriff, and not sherif.the nbelow poster fails to realize that the guy was considered as a aduly when he was caught. he was old enough to know better.on the other hand he did not know better when it came to taking the blame.either way the guy was not a friend.once you commit a crime you will always have a criminal history.therefore he will always be looked at as a thief.
