  1. Sure you can, It is considered and emergency. Sometimes the hospital will ask how you plan to get there when you deliver,I am not sure but, I think it is related to insurance purposes your  health insurance.  More than likely your insurance will be paying for the ride.

  2. You can but if it isn't covered on your insurance plan (and most plans DON'T cover it)  it will be quite expensive.  If you don't have someone to take you it may be cheaper to call a cab.

Another thing in relying on an ambulance is that many first time pregnant ladies don't recognize the difference between "pains" and LABOR pains.  They arrive at the hospital, get checked out and sent home.  Then you have no way home.

Of course ambulances charge.  They charge a lot because they are bringing medical supplies and equipment, a "room", at least 2 trained medics and transportation.  None of which you need, with the possible exception of transportation.

Yes, the guy who gets shot gets an ambulance bill.  Leave the ambulance available for him.  You can take a taxi, he can't.  Pregnancy is RARELY a medical emergency.

  3. If you prefer.  You have all this planned out before the time comes though.

  4. unless you live in a place where healthcare is free, then yes you will be charged... around here it is 1000$ plus milage... some places charge a lower fee, but then they charge you for everything used...

the emts on the ambulance have been trained to deliever a baby, there is equipment on the ambulance to deliver a baby, but honestly, i would rather have my baby in an open field than in the back of an ambulance... sure the backs get cleaned, but still, they might have been on a call right before they pick you up and may have missed a spot of some seriously bad germ, and then boom your baby is infected...

as for the gun shot victim, even if you dont call for an ambulance, if you get on the ambulance and go to the hospital, you will be charged.....

  5. Call a cab or don't you have any friends/family that can take you?

  6. Probably, but an ambulance is expensive.  And yes, you will have to pay.  You don't get free medical care just because you call 911.

  7. You can if you have to, but keep in mind that it will cost you upwards of $1000

  8. You CAN ... but unless your labor is moving VERY fast and/or you are willing to pay a very costly bill from the ambulance company, you  are better off getting a friend/relative  to drive you or calling a taxi. Ambulances are for emergencies.  Early labor is not an emergency.

EDIT:  Yes, ambulance companies charge for their services. For most people who have insurance, (private or otherwise)  insurance covers the cost if they deem the trip to be medically necssary. (As would be true for a shooting or other medical emergency.)  If it's NOT necessary, they won't pay, and you are stuck with the bill. (Which is right and proper, since unneeded charges increase everyone's insurance premiums ... and make insurance less and less affordable.)

If you dont' have a spouse/partner to drive you to the hospital, give some thought as to how you will get there.

  9. you can if you want to. after my water broke i went in a taxi! :-)

  10. Yes you can but if it is just starting and you have a way to the hospital it is better to have someone drive you so if they is a emergency with someone else they can get there faster and if you dont have a car then that is a emergency then i say call them and have them to haul you as it would be easier than a cab but yes you can

  11. Having a baby is already crazy expensive, An ambulance ride is about $10,000. Good luck trying to get your insurance to cover it. Better idea to get a taxi, friend, neighbor, or spouse to help.

  12. yes you can go by Ambulance but they will charge you a hefty price,Anyone who goes in a ambulance anywhere gets charged. You need to have a few back up people to call if you are in labor and you have no one with you.You could always drive your self,if it is not to far away.It could tale hrs or days before the baby is born so I suggest getting a few people near you that can come and get you.Good Luck and congrats!
