  1. Just like irons, you should feel like youre hitting down on the ball, ie compressing the ball against the turf.  You should be digging some grass after contacting the ball.  Try not to "scoop" the ball, which will either lead to flopping it if you get under it, or blading it causing a low runner.

  2. The key to getting more distance and spin on your short irons is making sure to hit the ball with a decending blow.  I see way too many golfers constantly trying to "scoop" the ball off the turf with their wedges.  This leads to all kinds of problems.

Take a few practice swings wtih youre sand wedge, and see where the club bottoms out.  You are going to need to take a divot with these clubs, otherwise you will never be able to compress the ball, which gives you the spin and distance that you are lacking.  Once you find out where the swing is going to bottom out, you can position the ball slightly behind that point.  Make a powerful swing, making sure to keep your wrists slightly ahead of the ball at impact.  This will promote a decending blow on the ball, which will cause the ball to compress against the clubface.  The ball stays on the face a split second longer, and will give the grooves a chance to grip the cover of the ball and produce spin.  The compression of the ball will provide the extra yardage that you are looking for.

  3. Practice, go to the driving range and take only your sand wedge and practice.  Learn to hit different shots with it.  Change your ball placement in your stance, your hands at impact, your arc, your swing speed, etc....  Work with your wedge and very comfortable, it can save you many strokes.

  4. holding the face too open?

    deccelerating at moment of impact?

    being S**t?  ;)

  5. it sounds like you are playing the ball forward in your stance.  with a wedge you want to play the ball back.  if you have the ball in the middle of your stance, play it halfway between there and your back foot.  heres a stupid way to visualize it..my gas gauge method..say you are addressing the ball, you look down and your left foot would be EMPTY...right foot is FULL...you want the ball sitting at 3/4 tank.  make any sense?  this will cause a lower longer flight with more spin.  email me if you need me to explain different, thats the only way i could make it visual.  good luck

  6. Whats your loft? Where is the ball in your stance? If your hitting a 60 degree wedge with the ball in the middle of your stance, its going to happen every time, even with like a 50 degree wedge, try putting the ball in the very back of your stance, at least on the insole of your back foot. that keeps the the ball lower and farther. next tip, use a pitching wedge or even a nine iron if it happens to you everytime.

  7. Well, try using a club with a different angle. like a 7 or 9 iron.
