When installing 3/4 hardwood floor over concrete with 1/2 inch wood under it should the 1/2 " be fastened down

I`m assuming the 1/2 wood is plywood over the concrete.   The plywood should certainly be anchored. Since it will not be seen, a cheaper quality is fine.    However, if this is in a basement area, I would avoid the hardwood, because if you ever have a water problem, and it`s not discovered quickly, your hardwood floor will most likely be badly damaged.                                                                                                                      GOOD LUCK,   THE COACH

if you are talking 1/2 in. furring strips , i would glue them down...i wouldnt put a solid surface under a basement floor...
