When installing wood flooring, the wood should lay perpendicular to the light, right?

like if the light is coming directly through those windows, the boards should lay up and down, instead of parallel(side to side)

  1.   Always , no ifs ands or buts... Wood (full 3/4 tongue and groove) goes perpendicular to the joists.. If you dont "spand" the joist the weight will  cause dips and sags between the joists..Hope it works out for you  GL

  3. you need to lay the floor left to right as when you walk into the room..the main part...go across the stringers.....not with them
