We have Birthmothers Day, right? So we need a 'special' day to honor Adoptive mothers too don't we?

  1. How come there's no "Birth Father's" day?

The world is full of hypocrisy.

  2. We already do.  It's called mother's day.  So many become mothers just because they become pregnant, but it takes a lot of work to be able to adopt a child.

I don't think of my son that happens to be adopted is any differently my son than the one I gave birth to.  Actually, since I was so young when I had my first, I'm probably closer with the 2nd.  I've even given card to women who are very close in a mothering type of way to me.  It takes a lot of special people to raise kids these days.  I'm blessed to have had lots of positive roll models, and I hope I become a better one for my kids' sakes.

  3. Amoms are mothers

    so.. mother's day..

  4. Many "birth"mothers are insulted by "birthmother's day". Even the term "birthmother" is a considered insulting in some circles. I agree with the answers that said that it is a day to deal with the grief of losing a child - not too much, I think, to give a woman who has given the "gift of life" to another person in order for them to enjoy parenthood. Would "Adoptive Mother's Day commemorate infertility? ALL mothers should be recognized on Mother's Day because they are just MOTHERS (with or without their children). As for myself, I don't need a special day - Mother's Day is everyday!

  5. Mother's day is a "one-size-fits all" holiday.  First mothers, adoptive mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, important "mother-figures".

    It works for me.

  6. Nah, "Mother's Day" basically encompasses everything

  7. For those who think that "Birth" Mother's Day should be the day before the "real" Mother's Day and want to make that distinction (I think the date is correct - I try not to think about it.), it is only fair that Adoptive Mother's Day should be the day after Mother's Day.  Good point.

Personally, I think that Mother's Day is a day for all mothers.

  8. No, as the adoptive mother you are now officially the "Mother" who gets celebrated on Mother's Day.

  9. You should celebrate on the same day. You're just as deserving!

  10. Adoptive Mothers Day is as dumb as Birthmothers Day.

Celebrate Mother's Day with whoever you want. It really doesn't matter.

What woman has inspired you, loved you, made you a better person?  Honor HER.

  11. No, Mothers are mothers no matter how she became your mother by birth or adoption. I think it would hurt a Mom if she knew her child didn't think any more of her than to have to add "adoptive Mother" to her. She's a MOTHER.

  12. i concur...

  13. It mothers day! She's no less of a mother than your real mother. I would think an adoptive mother would feel less like a mother if she had to celebrate on a different day. They dont need a special day.

  14. Sarcastic much?

The reason adoptive mothers are honoured on mothers day is because we are the day to day parents.  If there is an open relationship there should be honouring of all mothers.

If there is not, or it was closed, we still want to celebrate all mothers.  I still think "birth mothers" day perhaps has significance to some people who perhaps want a day to provide awareness of the pain "birth mothers" go through, rather than a celebration.

Nonetheless, not sure why you felt the need to write a question to knock down adoptive mothers.  I for one am excited (as are my kids) about my first mothers day.  Heck if they did have an adoptive mothers day I would celebrate that too, two days of presents,  I coudl handle it!

  15. I am a Mother and celebrate on Mother's day.

  16. Heh heh....They're both my mothers, and they're both getting regular old Mother's Day cards.

I choose to ignore Birthmother's Day.
