We just booked a trip for August 4 to August 11. Is it a bad time to go?

  1. The hurricane season for the entire Caribbean is June through November, but Jamaica on average avoids bad weather in August. The first chart below shows that the average July rainfall is low. But the second chart shows that the current forecast calls for rain all week because of the remnant of Hurricane Dolly. The odds are in your favor, but there are no guarantees of course.

  2. That's the heart of the hurricane season. You should have gone during the late fall or winter. It's not as crowded and hot. The weather is beautiful.

  3. I have been to Jamaica many times in August and have never met a hurricane. I am going again in about a week. I am not worried, but with global warming, the weather is so unpredictable, anything may happen. Hurricane season has never stopped me from going.

  4. The Atlantic hurricane season starts June 1 and runs through the end of December.  Historically, however, September and October seem to be the most active months.  You're probably ok in early August but no guarantees.  If you booked it through a travel agent, you may want to ask if the wholesaler they used has a 'hurricane guarantee' or if you can still purchase insurance if you are worried.   Have a great trip!
