  1. Hey Breezer, "Binie" is right. Go and see  Karneval for yourself in one of the Karneval cities. I can highly recommend Duesseldorf and Cologne. It's better than Fasching and way better than Mardi Gras, which you might know.

And Duesseldorf & Cologne are just a trainride or a car- ride away from the Munich area. Go do it before you settle down too much and have kids!

  2. Breezer, if you have a chance go to Duesseldorf or Koeln (Cologne)!!!

This coming Thursday is when Karneval will start (ALTWEIBER) and the highlight is on Monday (ROSENMONTAG) whith the traditional parades in Koeln or Duesseldorf or Mainz.

On Wednesday (ASCHERMITTWOCH) it will be all over.

If you have never participated in Karneval go to those areas for over the weekend!

The bavarian Fasching is pretty lame in comparison!!!!!

  3. I am a Duesseldorfer Girl and Karneval starts this week on Thursday. Monday is Rosenmontag and Wednesday it's over. The Duesseldorf Karneval is in my opinion the best (well, maybe next to the Cologne's Karneval....old rivalry..lol)

If you have never experienced karneval you should come and dress up warm and in costume and be with a group of friends and watch the Rosenmontagszug (parade on Monday). It's a few hours watching the parade, drinking, eating, laughing, partying..you name it..it is fun!!!

Fasching? I have never experineced fasching, but I hear it is not the same as the real good rheinisch Karneval...

  4. Now, until Wednesday the 6th of February. Karneval in Germany is always from the 11th of November until the day before Ash Wednesday, everywhere in Germany, though there are areas where Karneval is a big huge tradition (like in Köln and that area, or in Frankonis, that's a part of Bavaria). Other parts are not known as "Karnevalshochburg" (translates more or less to the "capital of Karneval"), but nowadays Karneval is celebrated everywhere.

    Edit:

Yeah, yeah, Sirius. I know it's Fasching in Bavaria! And it's "Helau", too, not the "Alaaf" everybody's screaming in Köln.

    Anyway, let's p-a-r-t-y! Cheers! ;)

  5. Karneval is not really celebrated in Bavaria.

Köln, Düsseldorf, Mainz ..................the Rheinland is where you want to be.

  6. Hey Breezer --- you are living there and have a bavarian husband. Ask him or go to village and ask there, why do you ask a hamburgian --- whe don't have such nonsense.

    Greetings from Hamburg, Germany

    Heinz

  7. Everything was said - execpt, that it is "Fasching" and not "Karneval" in Bavaria.

    Cheers,

    Sirius
