When is Stimulus rebate check if filing jointly with my mother?

I am 21, a student, last 2 digit is 58.

Since I am 21, I am not a dependent anymore. My mother filed 1040 to IRS, and I filed jointly. Her last 2 digit is 90.

Will I get the $600 rebate check?

Will we get the check at the same time?

  1. Yikes.

You really need to read IRS publication 501.

If you live with your mother, are a full-time student during 5 or more months of the year and did not support yourself, you ARE a dependent until you hit the age of 24.  If so, you wouldn't be eligible to claim your exemption on your tax return.

Assuming you either supported yourself or were going to school part time...how much *your* rebate would be would depend on your tax liability.  Even without extra credits or deductions, you would have to have made at least $14750 to have owed $600 or more in tax...which is the requirement to get the full $600.

As for when your mom gets her rebate for her tax return and when you get your rebate for your tax return (you may have filed at the same time, but you did NOT file jointly), it depends on when you filed, whether you listed bank accounts, whether both returns fly through the system, etc.  It's highly unlikely you'd get the checks the same week....

  2. You married your mother??  Wow!  Never knew that was possible!

Of course you didn't marry your mother.  And since you didn't marry her, there's NO way that you can file a joint return with her.

More that likely she claimed you as a dependent.  That means that you do NOT qualify for the rebates. And since you were over age 16 as of Dec 31, 2007 she wont' receive the $300 kicker for a qualifying child.

  3. If you mean you both filed seperate tax returns on the same day then you will each get a check IF you both meet the criteria.

If she claimed you as a dependant then only she could be eligible for the rebate and she will not get the extra $300 for you as a dependant due to your age.

The date for paper checks to be mailed to those with SS # of 58 was June 20th so your check should be arriving this week if it is coming in this wave of checks.

SS# 90 checks should be mailed July 11th.

Most people did not receive the full $600 but the minimum of $300 instead.

Go to www.irs.gov for specific info.
