When is a child old enough to eat spicier food, and go see a movie in the theatres?

I have a 16 month old daughter and as she gets older we want to expose her to different experiences. My husband and I LOVE east and west indian foods, which both tend to be on the spicy side, so when can we slowly begin introducing a bit more heat to her meals. Obviously we wouldn't be giving her suicide levels of spice and peppers, but we want to phase her into it, so when is it not too young anymore.

Also when is a good age to take your child to the movies for a treat. I keep seeing commercials online for this new Tinkerbell movie coming out later this year, but I wonder if maybe she is too young still. I know my own intuition will take over ultimately, but when did you begin taking your children, and at what age did they actually sit through that 90 minutes without fussing or having to bribe them with sugar to keep still???

Thanks :)

  1. As for the spicy foods...I wouldn't start giving it to her until right around 2 years of age, and even then do it extremely gently, you don't want to burn her delicate taste buds. And for the Movie, my 3 year old sat through a movie theater movie without any troubles. My two year old will if I have an everylasting flow of snacks for her.

  2. I have a 20 month old that loves spicy food.  I don't like it as much as he does.  So far, no tummy troubles when he eats stuff like that, but we're careful not to give him too much of anything.

  3. I would gradually exposed her to spicy foods now. I would just be prepared for a messy diaper. For spicy foods upset many adult bellys.

As for a movie, it all depend on the child but have taught toddler for years and most couldn't sit through a 10 minute circle time. With out wanting to get up. I would sya not till 3-4 but again it all depend on the child. If you really wanty to take her I would do it at a time when not many people would be in the theater so not to distrub other trying to watch the movie.

    Hope that helps:)

  4. My son was 5 when he first went to the pictures.

Just because you two both enjoy spicy food, doesn't mean a baby will. They have very different taste buds.

  5. In cultures where spicy food is regularly eaten children would already be exposed to it by now. As long as she has no gastrointestinal problems you can try some mild spices now.

As far as going to see a movie goes... I would guess about 3... if your daughter can sit through a movie at home she can do it in public. At 16 months I would guess she has no interest in holding still for 10 minutes.

  6. My son has been eating spicey food since he was able to eat solids. The going to the movie's thing depends on the child. My neices are 5 and they can't go to the movies but thats more because there parents never give them rules. I took my son to see that dr. sues movie and he is 2. He did a great job and loved it..

  7. my daughter was 2 when i took her to the cinema and my son nearly 3 but all kids are different! i know some adults who can't sit down for 90 mins!!

on to the spicy food, just try and add different bits to the meal, lots of choice even if they dont eat it the first time they will get used to it being there, and start to pick at it! don't force it on to her, she may enjoy it more as she gets older!
