When is a rabbit past his show prime?

I have a black mini Rex buck named Ozzwald. He was born February of 2004. I just took him to the county fair and we won a state trip. He is a spoiled house bunny, and he just spent 4 hours hopping around a fenced area under the deck rolling in dirt and eating grass and hopping around next to my other rabbit (separated, of course), so please spare me on the lectures of letting a rabbit be a rabbit and letting him live a full happy life. He is.

I'm just wondering when he is past his show prime, or if he already is. Should I take him to the county fair next year? He will be 5 by then.

Thanks!

  1. you can show a rabbit as long as you like. i had a showmanship rabbit that i used for 9 years. i retired her after that but she died a spoiled happy life at age 10-1/2. as long as your rabbit still looks good as far as body type goes, keep showing him. take him to the fair next year and keep having fun with your rabbit while you still can!

  2. Depends on how he looks.  If he still looks good by all means keep showing him.  I wouldn't expect him to still take 1st but if you want to there is no maximum age limit.
