Question:

When is an electric socket ready to fit a blanking plate?

I have an old power socket, the wires have been taped up and tucked in, I think it is ready to put the blanking plate on.

Is this right?

  1. I agree with the above answer... you should use wire nuts which are more secure... but even then I would also wrap the wire nut with electrical tape.

    In my mind the peace of mind from doing both is worth the extra 50 cents for the wire nuts and tape.

    Also make sure that when you push the wires back into the outlet box that you do not cut the insulation on either wire against the sometimes sharp edges of the box.

    A little common sense and some care in doing the task and you should be safe for many years to come.


  2. Instead of tape you should use wire nuts, they won't corrode like tape and keep from causing a fire hazard.
