  1. Usually when they aren't flowering or when all the leaves drop off (usually winter), but it does depend on the type of shrub.  It would be worth checking a gardening advice website and check for each type of shrub /bush that you've got.

  2. If the shrubs were flowering type, it,s said they can be trimmed after they finished flowering, if they dont have flowers then almost any time is ok.

  3. Depends on what kind it is.  Lilacs,  forsythia,  and bridal wreath need pruned after they bloom,  but before June 1.  Otherwise they won't bloom the next year.  Burning bush and any of the conifers can be pruned anytime.  Roses need pruned in the spring,  about mid march.  If you have a pyrocanthia,  there is not a real good time to prune it.  It blooms white flowers that then turn into berries that turn orange in the fall and the birds will eat them over the winter.

    Good Luck

  4. That entirely depends on the shrub.

Some like to be trimmed in the fall.  Some in the spring.  Some flowering shrubs, if trimmed in the fall or winter, will not bloom come spring.  Evergreens can be trimmed anytime other than summer.  Hot weather is the worst time to trim them.  fall through spring is much better.

Tell us what shrubs you have, and we can give you specifics.

  5. winter

  6. I can tell you about yews. To trim, September. To prune or reshape aggressively,February. NEVER fertilize them. if you are going to rip up yews just to replant yews, cut them off short and let them regrow from the roots.
