  1. That is a jewish tradition. It's done after pronounced man and wife and while kissing the bride under the chuppha.

  2. it's a jewish tradition....i've heard that the idea is that your marriage should last as long as it takes to put all the little pieces back together again (which, theoretically, should be eternity)

    Here are some sites you can read.  The language of a Jewish wedding can be quite difficult.  The first site gives lots of input on how to incorporate Jewish traditions with interfaith marriages.  Make sure you attend the premarital counselling.  A lot of rabbis will not perform the ceremony if you have not.
