Hay do you like seeing 4 dollar a gallon gas well that what they say we will have this summer. There is no reason for this Americans need to tell congress to get off their butt and get us some better cars and busses SUV and cars that do not get 30 miles to the gallon should be allow to be sold in US. Japan has them why do not we have them be cause American would rather have one that go 0 to 70 in 4.5 seconds Tell congress what you want.. May your voice be heard. The US Senate failed to renew the alteritive energy act. Instead gave oil more tax breaks. If you are driving a Hummer you are part of the problem. I not saying you should not have one for going some place that so rough you really need it four wheel drive. If you driving that by yourself to work everyday and you do not live on a road that is that rough park it.

  1. Congress will wake up and give us a decent energy bill the same day that it isn't owned outright by corporate America and that the general populace stops believing that we have enough oil to last us forever and ever... Since these two things probably won't happen until it is too painfully obvious to ignore Peak Oil it won't make much of a difference anyway since the federal government will probably no longer be able to influence much anything and more decisions about energy will have to be made on a local basis...

  2. Just for laughs, give me an example of a situation in which the Congress had "woke up" before.

Besides pouncing right on Roger Clemens.

  3. Okay, it's things like this that grind my gears. I live in Michigan, and I paid $4.09 for gas last summer. Yes, I complained, but I faced up to it and drove less.

I drive a 2001 Ford Escape for to and from work every day. It has Four-Wheel-Drive. Why? Because I need it. I live on a dirt road that isn't maintained that well, plus winter in Michigan. Granted, this is the first year that I really used the 4WD system because of snow, but still. I've pulled more cars out of the ditch with that thing than you can shake a stick at. Yet, it gets 25mpg. (I have the V6)

My other truck is a 2005 Ford F250. It gets a whopping 12 mpg. Granted, I wish I could get something with better mileage, but you can't haul a horse trailer with a Civic.

As for alternative energy, the Government is still leery on promoting a rather new technology. The Prius is still having problems with it's electrical system, and none of the auto companies (Toyota, Honda, Ford) are sure yet how long their hybrid systems will last.

Four dollar gas. When you look at the rest of the world, isn't really that bad. Compared to the UK or Canada, we're paying practically nothing in fuel taxes. There are two other reasons we're paying so much. 1) $102/bbl for oil. 2) Very weak dollar. If the dollar was as strong as it was in 2000, it would be about $2.50/gal instead of $4.00/gal.

I work in the auto industry, and trust me, we're doing everything we can to get the most out of fuel effeciency, especially since that's what the public wants. And it's making my job nuts, with all the changes coming about.

Though, cars aren't the only energy wasters. Look at your house's energy bill. Both in gas and electricity.
