When is congress voting on the amethyst initiative?

Had to look it up.  Lowering the drinking age to 18?  Is it federal?  Because what federal business is it? Isn't it a state issue?

Next year Congress has to renew the provision in the Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, which says that if states set their drinking age below the age of 21 then the federal government can withold 10% of the federal highway funding.

I doubt that the drinking age will be lowered any time soon, but I hope it does.  18 year olds have the right to vote, serve on juries, give themselfs lung cancer(smoke), join the military and get shot at, enter into contractual agreements, consent to s*x acts, among a myriad of other legal rights.  However, they can't have a beer.  Pretty ridiculous aint it?
