When is it a good time to prune a plum tree.?

i live in upstate ny. i have picked all the plums for the season-so do i do it now?

  1. Wait  for it to go dormant for the season. then prune back


  2. The best time to prune a plum tree in your area is February or March. Earlier than that you will get frost damage from the cuts, Later and the tree will bleed sap and be susceptible to disease entering the cuts.

  3. Not yet. It still has leaves right? Wait for the tree to go dormant.  The leaves on it now are producing energy being stiored in the roots for the growth next spring.  You can wait untill late winter or just before it starts to leave out in spring.  But do not do it yet.
