  1. Overdrive is like a 5th gear above 4th or a 6th above 5th.  So clearly on freeways etc.  Stop and go??  woudl you be in 5th or 6th then?

  2. overdrive gear is a separate gear all by itself and if its an auto trans it will not even go into it until a certain speed usually at around 45mph  in most all vehicles

when you put the shifterinto overdrive on an uatomatic trans it is not in overdrive automatically as soon as you put it into the overdrive position unless the vehicle is already traveling fast enough to need this gear

manual trans overdrive gear is also separate and is the same concept  as with auto trans escept that an auto will automatically put it into overdrive gear as soon as you put it into the overdrive postion

as you have to do with a manual trans

  3. Use it on the highway or freeway not around town or city driving.

  4. Over drive is just EXTRA gear past the regular top gear.  So it really does nothing when NOT cruising on the hwy.  It ONLY kicks in hwy cruising (even if the switch and the light says otherwise).

If you ever drive a stick shift, you can see on some old cars numbers like 1,2,3,4, 5(OD).

    Good Luck...
