  1. CPR is started when the patient is not breathing and does not have a pulse.

Also, a choking victim who goes unconscious gets CPR. Likewise, an unconscious drowning victim gets CPR.

You don't perform the heimlich on an unconscious person, and you don't perform CPR on someone who's conscious.

It's worth noting that if someone is not breathing, but has a pulse, you do not start CPR but, instead, start rescue breathing and monitor their pulse.

Also- if you find an adult who needs CPR, call 911 first. If it's a child or an infant, start CPR first for 2 minutes, then call 911.

Obviously if there are two people present, you can continue/start CPR while someone else calls 911.

  2. yes and when someone is choking

  3. YOU HAVE TO GET THE BEATING AGAIN. THE COMPRESSIONS HELP TO STIMULATE THE HEART AND BRING YOU BACK TO LIFE.

  4. after they are taken out of the water...if there is no sign of breath/pulse start you would start cpr, you should take a lesson of course. you do it anytime someone stops breathing, in the case of choking it depends on the location of the object, you may be able to pull it out or do Heimlich rather than cpr.
