Question:

When is it recommended to give a toddler a pillow?

We just bought our 17 month old daughter a mates bed yesterday. It won't arrive for another 2 weeks though. My mom also bought her the twin sized mattress to go with it.

Before we go out and purchase bedding, which we know she will need, at what age do doctors and pediatricians recommended that it is okay to give a child a pillow?

We don't want to give one too soon or too late.

  1. my son went in his first bed at 16months old i just bought the kids bedding starter pack from argos for now

  2. I say it would be fine, but I would go with a tot sized pillow and tot bed . My 20 month old has a pillow on his tot bed and had it for months now and doing great!

  3. my kid never stops moving and has always had a pillow since he was  like a year old its up to you.

  4. My daughter is about to turn 2 and has been sleeping with a pillow for a while. But I never really worried too much because she sleeps on her back all night. My nephew however, is about the same age but they are not giving him a pillow because he sleeps on his  stomach. I am not sure when they say is the best age to give them one I would just use your mom intuition. You could always give her a pillow but make sure it is flatter and not as fluffy.

  5. Both my boys had pillows from about 14 months. Sometimes they use it sometimes they dont.

I am sure it will be fine.

  6. I'm pretty sure there are no medical recommendations as to when to introduce a pillow to a toddler.  Go with your gut.  My 19 month old loves cuddling with a pillow when he's not cuddling with me or his daddy & I'm not nervous about it at all.

  7. My twins were about 12 months...I got them travel size pillows with pillow cases that zipped up (so they couldn't get stuck inside of them)...

  8. Whenever they go into a big bed, they can have a pillow. No pillows in the crib though. So once she gets her bed, she can sleep with a pillow.

  9. I believe my daughter were a around 1.5-2 years of age when i gave them a pillow. What we did was we gave them one of our old pillows to use, that way it was not fluffy but flatter. You just want to avoid a fluffy pillow.
