When is it safe to drive?

I'm asking this because i never normally drink if i have to drive the next day and i'm pretty disgusted with myself that i did!

I had 4 cans of lager last night, (3.8%, 440ml cans), my final drink was finished by 9.30pm. Im female, weigh about 8 1/2 stone and am aprox 5'6" tall.

Will the alcohol have worked it's way out of my system by now so i am safe to drive? I do need to go out at some point today but it doesnt have to be now so i want to know i'm alcohol free before i get in my car.

Any advice would be appreciated

  1. i have been told that it takes an hour for the body to process a unit of alcohol.

so assuming each can is a unit (it will tell you on the can), 4 units is 4 hours from 9:30

that makes 1:30 in the morning. by 7 or 8 in the morning, you should be totally sober.

make sure you are well hydrated, to keep your concentration normal.

check with your local police if you not sure

get one of those personal breathalysers to be really safe

  2. it would depend on the person. do you think you could have alchol in your system at say 10 am and at 10.05 it is all gone.<

  3. 24 hours for drink to leave your system.

  4. It depends on the rate of metabolism. The rate at which alcohol is metabolized is about .015 BAC (Blood Alcohol Concentration) in an hour. Accordingly, a person with blood alcohol concentration of .15 becomes totally free of alcohol content in his bloodstream after about ten hours.

There is no way to speed up alcohol metabolism. Alcohol metabolism rate remains the same irrespective of taking non-alcoholic drinks, exercising, bathing or similar activities. A person can only control the level of blood alcohol concentration by drinking less. Thus the only way to get rid of alcohol from your system fast enough is to control the level of blood alcohol concentration.
