When is it that you are asked for a passport when leaving the u.s to mexico or when coming back into the u.s?

if you do need a passport when boarding the plane is there a way to get on anyway because i applied for a passport but i dont thing i will get it in time for my plane can i show my receipt or something

  2. Both, the airline will want to see your passport when you check-in and you will have to show your passport and boarding pass before you go through the security checkpoint. You will also have to show it when you arrive in Mexico, and again when you check in to return to the US. Then you'll need to show it again when you arrive in the US at Passport Control and Immigration, and you may be asked to show it again by a Customs Officer in the customs area. Keep it handy.

    btw, you're not going anywhere out of the country without a passport.
