  1. I say it's never too late.  Look at that american girl in the pole vault who has only been doing it for four years, ranked second best in the world and won the silver medal in the olympics.

  2. Never. As long as you want it, you've already got it.

(P.S. I am at pools lots and somtimes i see the 75 year olds swimming just as fast as the levle nines. Why? the're there three or four times a week for an hour a day. if someones chubby old grampa can be an efficiant speedy swimmer, some one like you should have no problem getting the hang of it. Comitment is key though...)

  3. im guessing your from america

if you r im not really sure about what age high school is

    but i would say 8-10

  4. The younger you start, the better off you'll be.

I didn't get serious until I was 15, my sophomore year in high school. I swam year round, 6 days a week 3 hours a day and by my senior year I was pretty good. I had qualified for state in every event i regularly swam, and in my best event I made finals.

I was on the best team in the area (30 consecutive undefeated dual meets) and I was about the number 4 backstroker, and number 3 freestyler on the team. Those that were better than me had been swimming since they were 6-10 years old.

Even if I didn't do as well as I did, I still would have had fun and thats what it is all about. But if you work hard you can become good in a fairly short amount of time.  Just don't get too caught up in swimming, there is life outside the pool (that goes for anything)

  5. I would suggest you start today, it's never too soon to join the swim team, I have coached swimmers as young as 6.  Is it ever too late, no many people take up competitive swimming later in life 40-50+ years old and can become competitive swimmers.  The most important thing is practice practice and more practice.  Good and great swimmers have spent a lot of time in the water 1000's of hours going back and forth.  A swimmer like Mike Phelps swims about 10-12 miles a day and a high school swimmer swims between 2.5-4 miles a practice, sometimes doing two or more practices a day.  You see swimming is not so much of a strength sport as it is a finesse sport and them more time in the water the more efficient you become and the better swimmer you become.

So to answer your question, when is it too late to join swimming to be a great high school swimmer?  I would join by senior year if not sooner.  Some people pick up the competitive stokes very quickly and are competitive, others it takes years.  Good luck and don't become discouraged if you are not the best right away, everything comes in time.

  6. hmm...to be one of the best in your high school...it really depends on what high school you're attending. But i would say around 7-11 is a good age range.

  7. I'm on swim team and most of the top swimmers on the team started when they were about 10 but i also know a few who started later but are just as good. I think that it depends more on how much time and effort you are willing to put into it.
