When is last March, March this year or March last year?

If someone says he met a nice girl last March, how do you take it? Since we are now in June, can it mean he met her in March this year? Isn't it confusing anyway?

  1. March this year because it had passed already of this year since we are in June.

<>I met a nice girl last year of March = March last year and not this year.

  2. march this year

  3. In my area, this march is this year even though it is passed and last march was last year  ( ruled by the year).

  4. If you are in January, February or even in March, then last March must have been in the last year, not the current one.  One wouldn't refer to the current March as last March, because it isn't over.  One would refer to it as this March, or this month.  If you are in April through December, then the last March must have occurred in the current year, or this year.
